WWII jeeps had frame numbers from the factory. M38, M38A1, M170m, CJV35 did not.
sorry to hijack a thread but I was under the impression that M38's had frame numbers? If this is not the case, then my frame belongs to a different vehicle and someone put an M38 body on it. _________________ 1952 M38 project

Southpw I moved you post because hijacking threads is not in the best interest of sharing information here. It usually diffuses the original poster's topic and leads to confusion.
If you have a M38 with the same 5 digit serial on your frame that is on your dash serial plate and patent plate then it was added in the field. Willys did not stamp M38 frames with serials.
It was common for military depots to stamp the frames with registration numbers or work order numbers or serial numbers. I ignore these in my surveys because they are sporatic, un-official and often misleading.
If you have a Canadian M38 they put the CAR #'s on the top of the left front frame rail. _________________ Wes K
