Hi Guys,
On my A1 the previous owner painted the hood numbers right over the cut-out for the fording intake hose on the right side of the hood. I'm guessing that's not the right place to put the numbers. If anyone ever removed that cut-out to install a fording kit you wouldn't see the complete hood numbers from that side. I looked online and I see some put the hood numbers above the hood cut-out and some put them in front of the cut-out between the cut-out and the hood latch. Are both ways correct? Did the numbers on the left side have to be put on the same way (meaning higher than normal or forward) to match the other side?
The simplist answer is from the applicable regulations & manuals:
Agency & registration numbers are to be applied to left & right sides of the hood in the most appropriate locations in 3” letters/numbers.
Common sense in most motor pools will keep these centered in the available space. This means the right side will be centered between the front edge of the hood and the fording cover front edge. The left side will be centered between the rear side of the Blackout Driving lamp and the rear edge of the hood.
The applicable Army regs amd manuals are:
AR 850-5 changes thru C-6 1949.
AR 746-2300-1 Dated Mar 1960 with Chg's thru C-8 Nov 1962
TB 746-93-1 Oct 64
Choose the publication most likely applicable to your equipment during it's period in service you are representing. _________________ Wes K
