I had a previous post on carb issues. Got another core rebuilt it. Seems good somewhat of a flat spot off idle but mixture screw helps. My new problem is a consistent miss unless under a load. #1 cylinder spark plug sooty and timing light intermittent obviously not firing consistently. I converted to 12v the distributor is a Autolite that has some play in the bushings so rebuilding. The cap and rotor are repops so getting originals hope that fixes it. Compression is consistent at 100 psi across all cylinders. Any thoughts? Still stumped on the original carb. I cleaned it in a electrostatic vat, but was running very rich. Dunno. New old carb rebuilt idles perfectly. Plugs clean except #1.

Don't forget to check plug wire and plug for #1. Can swap plug and wire to another cyl and see if the miss moves to that cyl.

Don't forget #1 is the long wire (23 3/4") the other three are the short ones (19 3/4"). In some cases it can be difficult to route a short one to #1.

I'd just sub a new plug for #1 and see how it runs or just leave it hanging on the wire and crank her over. If she sparks in a regular frequency then the issue is solved. If she still sparks irregular then swap the lead. Still sparks irregular open the distributor up and inspect the distributor block.

Put on original Standard vintage cap and rotor today no change. New plugs and wire tomorrow. Obvious #1 cyl not firing correctly. The exhaust manifold is a different color from the others not as hot. The timing light on #1 not consistent. Could be the wire, plug or the fact there’s play in the distributor shaft. I have parts inbound to rebuild the distributor but plugs and wire tomorrow. The compression is even at 105 on all cyl. Update later. As a update I worked with the first carb till out of ideas. I rebuilt it and electrstatically cleaned it but was unable to get it to work was running very rich and unstable. The new core I put a kit in seems good. Now obviously a ignition issue on #1. Hopefully getting to the bottom of these irritating issues!

Changed the #1 plug and wire running perfectly except a little flat spot off idle. I notice that this second carb leaves the transparent fuel filter full and under pressure whereas the first carb I had issues with running rich ect didn’t. Someone commented on my other thread the float valve was a possible issue on the running rich and the float valve or float height may indeed be the issue with the first carb. I will look at that again. Just heads up. Thanks for all the help!
