Hi Wes,
Have you received enough replies on the Phillips screw question to make an educated guess on when they appeared? It seems like there are enough late M38s with phillps screws to assume they are factory installed. Were there phillips screws on the early M38s? What do you think?

Those are accessories and their hardware was installed by the vender. If you have the early light switches the handle screws were installed by Bendix Scintilla and the later by Unicite. _________________ Wes K

Bob,
I have not recieved enough replys. I believe I have about 15 replies out of probably 300 + M38 owners. All the replies are late firewalls. _________________ Wes K

Hi, Wes, pechance my answer did not arrive but I tried to report that my 1951 M38 Serial No. 22797 did not have one single Phillips Screws; I dismanatled the tub and all body work to the last 3 bolts (thought I had them all except one for awhile)---all flat blade type screw head including the light switch and cover for the power take off. I have checked every single thing that I am aware of and my jeep appears to have been 100% original. Semper Fi Ben
