Hello,

I'm new to the site and recently acquired an M38 within the last 3 months. Here is my delimma.

All identification tags have been removed, both from the dash and the rear quarter. The only tidbit of info I can find is the RMC number on the engine, which is RMC116507.

My question is: Is there any possible way to associate the RMC number with the original VIN of the vehicle.

If not then I guess I'll never know.

Thanks

Scott

The R in RMC means a replacement engine. Without either serial # plate, all you can tell is whether it's a early or late type M38. No way I know to ID it unless a unit in the field stamped the serial into the frame somewhere. Usually not. The early and late M38's had different front lifting ring mount holes in the frame and the dash had the plates either screwed to the dash themselves, or were on a plate riveted, and the plate screwed to the dash. Motor pools can swap things around too. John

Scott,

As soon as you complete that survey form I sent you in Aug I can narrow down the DOD of your jeep.

Thanks Wes. Life comes at you fast sometimes and I just havent had time in the garage like I want.

I'll get that form completed hopefully by the end of this year and get started on teardown of the M38.

Thanks

Scott
