Once again I am kicking this can for opinions. This is the hood # that was on the M170 when I got it. You can look at the pics in my gallery here on this site. I sanded gently on the hood prior to sandblasting it to see if another # may be under it and it seems that this is the only one that was ever on it.
What year would this relate to? Does it seem accurate?
This relates to my previous post about determining the year. I would like to re-use this # If it seems accurate. I have searched data bases and the # seems to fall under the 1952 dates versus the 1955 that I believe this to be. You've got an engine and tranny/transfer from an early M38A1 so it is quite probable that some of body parts were also taken from an early M38A1. Hoods are quite easy to swap without any tools. This could have been done in the military or it could have been done by a salvage dealer or it could have been done by any prior owner.

20319500? This number is not close to any M38A1 hood number in any of the data bases. The 1952 thru Jan 54 hood numbers stayed in the 209XXXXX eight digit range. The Jan thru July 54 numbers were in the 20100XXXX nine digit range. IN 54 the Army switched to the 2A XXXX numbering system.

There is no doubt in my mind. You have a 1955 M170 with a ton of parts swapped in and a civilian applied hood number.

There used to be a data base at M38A1.com that had a list of serial #'s that I've been unable to access lately.
On that site I saw another M170 that had serial # 11869 with an 04/55 date code on it. Since that data is now not available do you have any info or contact info for this 11869 M170 that may lead me to a viable hood #?

Tremendous thanks. I would be lost without this site and your vast wealth of information.
