A few weeks ago I asked for opinions about a Q and D overhaul of a bad oil smoker. Here are the results;
Pulled the head-had .020 over pistons installed, installed another set of .020 over rings tried to start it, no go. found tdc of #1 and the exchaust valve still open ! Found tdc of #2 and it was perfect. It popped right off and ran great after setting the timing with the light on #2 cyl.
No smoke!!!
Could the previous Bubba have put the flywheel on at #2 tdc ?
Who is wrong me or Bubba?
Are you setting timing using the flywheel marks or the front pulley marks? If flywheel then that is quite odd since the flywheel can only be installed two ways (each 180 degrees aparts) which means you can set the timing marks on #1 or #4. #2 is 180 degrees from #3 so that doesn't add up. Is it possible that Bubba installed the flywheel with 6 regular 3/8" bolts instead of 4 reg and two dowel bolts? That would aloow the flywheel to shift to any degree of setting. It will also allow the flywheel to eventually start moving on the end of the crank flange. _________________ Wes K
