I am trying to find where all the vacuum tubes go to vent parts when fording. I have only been able to find info on the M38. Could someone post some pics or describe where all the tubes go.

If you do not have the ORD 9 SNL G-758 (M38A1 1955 Parts Manual) (Page 70) and the TM 9-8015-1 (M38A1 Engine & Clutch) ( page 148) you can download them free right here on our download page. Everything you need is in those two manuals.

Here's page 70 of the ORD 9

The M38A1 discontinued the factory installation of the fording vent system at serial MD23359 (Corrected OCT 52). After that serial any unit requiring fording capability had to be kitted up in the field.

Thanks for the info. I did not have ORD 9. Just the engine and clutch.

Download the ORD 9. It's free and you'll need it again soon. Each tube is listed by size, material and usually length.

After MD23359, did part of the vent system get installed at the factory, or none at all? Were uninstalled tubes and/or valves just replaced by plugs?

My M38A1 project vehicle purportedly had a DOD of 12/54 and has two plugs in the air cleaner vent tube connection points. I had previously assumed this was due to the vent system being stripped out in the past. Could this be how it rolled off the assembly line?

Thanks,
Warren

Wes,

My 38A1 is MD26703, with a delivery date of OCT 52. I am sure my data plates could be wrong, but are you sure about MD23359 being a year later?

Sam

I found Wes' diagrams of early & late M38A1 vent systems, and scanned through the ORD 9. I think I got it figured out. The late air cleaner vent connections would be plugged, as would the hole in the instrument panel where the fording cable control (dual) would have been mounted.

Wes, thanks for the documentation.

Warren

Hello Sam. My BAD I corrected my typo. OCT 52

STX yes where lines were deleted plugs were used. If you examine the ORD 9 carefully you'll see the plugs listed for after serials.
