Hi all,
As I am rebuilding my 1952 M38A1 from the ground up, I think about the future. I have the stock axles that will be taken to the shop soon and rebuilt and I was asked if I wanted disc breaks installed instead of the drum breaks. Has anyone done this? Which ones should I get? Any thoughts or comments will be appriciated!
Thanks,
Mike
PS- I know my machanic, friend of the family, isnt trying to fleece me for more $$$ by putting in disc breaks, if that changes anyones mind.

I just finished my M38 with 11in drum brakes on just the front axle, works fine for me.Whatever you do ,I don't think you need to change anything on the rear.

My own preference is to just leave everything stock but if I was to upgrade anything it would be the master cylinder from a single reservoir to a dual reservoir system to prevent total brake failure.
If the vehicle still has the original engine and transmission and 5.38 axles, drum brakes in my experience work fine for 45m.p.h. and under driving.
