I dont know if anyone has ever run into this, but i just removed my motor out of my 3a, and i found what looks to be a wad of string? or something like that in between the clutch fork and the bearing. is that supposed to be there or did it just find it's way in there somehow? i also removed the pilot bushing and it looked almost new, but the reason i took out the motor was to replace it, when i pushed in the clutch, it started a ticking noise all of a sudden one day,and i was told it was the bushing going bad, so while it's apart, i figured i might as well put a new press. plate, clutch,throwout bearing since it's apart. everything i can see looks o.k., but i don't want to put this thing back together and still have this problem, that would cause me great anoyance and displeasure! any thoughts? THANKS!
If the pilot bushing was snug in the flywheel and it fits snugly on the tranny input shaft then there was nothing wrong with the bushing. Ticking noises from inside the bell housing when the pedal is depressed is usually an issue with contacting something that either isn't suppose to be there or has broken or bent. _________________ Wes K

Somewhere it seems to me like I read a procedure whereby you run a string through the inspection port and out the clutch cable hole of the bell housing to assist in connecting the fork and the cable....but I'll be darned if I can find it now......anyway.....I wonder if that string you found could have been for this purpose.....and then the mechanic forgot to remove it afterwards from the bell housing. But hey.....you're lucky....if that had been me it would have been baling wire....and it probably would have cut my input shaft in two!! _________________ Jim
