I have a rebuilt Willys L-head motor for sale, engine was professionally rebuilt by a local company that has experience with antique and hi-performance engines. The motor is a civilian block but has a M38 front plate and double pully on the crankshaft. Does not come with a exhaust/intake manifold, clutch or bellhousing or any other accessories. There is a M38 lifting ring installed and that will stay with the engine. Aking $1600. I do not want to ship the engine but a buyer can pick up or I can work with a buyer on delivery for a resonable fee to cover my costs. This engine has not been run since rebuild, there is no guarantee of any sort. Should drop right into a M38 and be a reliable engine for miles and years to come!

Yea, the rebuilder left them out. If a buyer wants I can supply them. Just take off the oil pan, unbolt the rear bearing block and insert the bolts. Not a big job.

I would be sad if I purchased this engine only to find out that I had to tear into it to install the dowel bolts.

Installing the flywheel bolts is easy compared to finding a suitable core and rebuiliding the entire engine. If you by it ocwd I will install them prior to pickup!

Very easy - compaired to all the other operations needed to replace an engine. Inserting flywheel bolts and then the finished engine ready to install:

Nice looking engine. Something to be proud of after scrapping all the crud off it and getting it painted.

Rather odd you can't even hand down the professional rebuilder's warranty. Confused

Can you post photos of the full left side and a full front view of the rebuilt engine?

Can you post the serial number, block casting number and head casting number?

On the engine with the pan removed. I hope that is not the rebuilt engine that is for sale. All four rods have their narrow side facing the rear of the engine. Big no-no.

Full information will be made available to interested buyers on the engine for sale - just send a pm. The engine with the oil pan removed is not the one for sale, only an example of the disassembly that it takes to put in the flywheel bolts.

While we are in the education mode I'll post an edited version of Skyjeep's open bottom end. Rods are different between 1 & 3 and 2 & 4. They have different part numbers because they must be installed with their narrow side towards the nearest crank counterweight and at the same time their oil squirt hole must face away from the cam. In addition when you assemble each piston to the rod you must make sure that piston's "T" slot will end up facing the cam. It can be tricky but any experienced engine builder can get it right.
It would be interesting to know the builder on these engines.

The two engines pictured in this posting were rebuilt by two different persons. The one with the fault was rebuilt years ago by a private individual who has since passed away. The motor for sale was rebuilt by a person who rebuilds all kinds of engines for a living, from antique to contemporary and high performance motors, owns his own shop and is well regarded in this small town. My own inexperience led me to believe the sick engine was Ok. You live and learn! Guess this is what happens when you show your own "open bottom end". Embarassed

I asked a question regarding this engine when for sale on EBAY. After viewing it here I am glad I passed.

My question would be how can a person "who rebuilds all kinds of engines for a living, from antique to contemporary and high performance motors, owns his own shop and is well regarded" make such a basic mistake?

The rebuilt engine has sold. After I opened up the other engine (one in photo with exposed crankshaft), it checked out fine.
