I need to order some paint(going to use duracoat actually) and wondering if semi or gloss black paint was used originally for the engine accessories(valve cover, oil filter canister , air filter assy, generator bracket, etc.)
Also, any ideas on the oil filter bracket and oil dipstick tube where those OD green or black painted?

I copied this off an M38A1 website a long time ago. Sadly, I can't remember what the website was called.
1-Body 2430 OD.
2-Radiator guard 2430OD
3- Radiator Semi Gloss Black
4-Upper grill support rods possibly early 2430 OD and later and many NOS are black.
5-Basic engines 2430 OD.
6-Valve cover black/
7-Side valve cover and pan were 2430 OD.
8-Oil filter housing & brackets black,
9-Air cleaner housing & brackets black.
10-Air cleaner pre-filter 2430 OD.
11-Starter, generator, generator brackets & regulator black.
With the radiator listed as semi-gloss, maybe the other bits were too....

Thanks guys! Yes, working on a 53' M38A1 frame up resto. Got the tranny, transfer case, and F-Head engine completely rebuilt and painted. Working on getting all the accessories painted next over the next few weeks.
Decided its my jeep and went with a product called duracoat. Used primarly in the firearms refinishing business, but love this coating system. Easy to spray and the two part coating drys pretty quick to the touch and hardens over a week or two period and tough as nails. Using OD Green and just ordered the semi gloss black for the running gear accessories. Also considering painting the frame with it after media blasting the frame first.
Don't care about losing points in any contest, just want a coating that has some industrial properties.
Thank you for the detailed info on semi-gloss black paint spec. This forum is a wealth of info.
