I have a 53 m38a1. I'm to all this military jeep (stuff). but im learning lol I have done some research and i think the Bosch AL513X Alternator will work on my jeep i was wondering if anyone good help me out. my jeep is all stock 24v starter ,distributor, and generator. but the voltage regulator is bad. so i was looking at just trying to get a alternator that had a regulator built into it. i dont want to convert jeep to 12v i want to stay as orignal as possible. Any info would be great!!!!! I have learned so much by just the info yall have posted thanx again
Any 24 volt negative ground alternator can be adapted to the jeep. I do not know of any civilian alternators the will bolt right up to the military generator mount. Why Bosch? Do you already have one laying in your shop? A one wire Delco 60 amp in 24 volt will cost about $125 to $175 and have plenty of parts support here in the US. All the civvy alternators will require adapting the mount, brace and pulley.
Also if you want the stock look then the 60 amp 24 volt miltary alternator fits perfectly in the existing mount and resembles the old 24 volt generator very closely. It too has a built in regulator and the harness mods are very simple or you can buy the military harness installation kit. _________________ Wes K
