I am getting back in the mood to start working on my Jeeps, I have a '54 M-38A1 that I need to rebuild the transmission and transfer case...
I know there is a sealed bearing for the transmission input shaft, is there a set of sealed bearings for the output shafts of the D-18? This would help in keeping transmission gear oil leakage to a minimum...

Unlike the tranny bearings which have only a flimsy paper gasket at the front and nothing for a seal at the rear, the transfer bearings are backed up by very effective garloc type seals. The only point that allows seapage are the yoke to shaft splines and these are sealed effectively with a light film of RTV.
The other source of leaks occurs when the seal lip has gotten contaminated with dirt and worn a groove in the shiney surface of the yokes. This can be repaired using a redi-sleeve. All of this is covered in Rick Stivers guide.
Add to Wes's list - pay attention to sealing every bolt that goes through the case into oil. And, once you have set your end. give an extremely thin coat of sealant to each shim. The Stivers tutorial gives guidance on how much additional clearance will be added by the sealant.
Paying attention to details will give you a very dry transmission and transfer case.
