How long is the cable/harness ORD 739500 from the generator to voltage regulator on an M38? Miller's M38 Reference Guide p.94 says "33" long?" but I have an M38 with a 22" overall cable that looks OK. Anyone with an NOS cable that they think is correct and if so, what is overall length. I call it a "cable", the ORD9 calls it a "harness", Miller calls it a "wire". ... Brian
There is more to learn? The 1951 ORD 9 SNL G-740 lists cable as G742-776-2732. Checking in a 1952 ORD 8 SNL G-742 this cable G742-776-2732 is described as using component wires 36" long. This part number vanishes from later G742 books and is replaced by G742-753-9500 which is also referenced in the M38 1956 ORD 9 SNL G-740 book. Maybe this is why Ryan questioned the length as being 33"? Were the early cables generously over length and then shortened to the more familiar 22-24" length? .... Brian
I think the early cables which by the way were originally designed for and first used in the G742 Reo 2.5T 6x6, were probably off the shelf very long to insure a wider applicability listing. I would guess on at least one vehicle the extra length became a safety or dependability issue and a switch was made to the shorter length. Most likely that vehicle was a G742 series truck thus the shorter replacement being labeled permanently with G752- prefix.
Brian,
If your 742 1952 ORD 8 has a good breakdown of parts for that cable assembly could you scan that page and email it to me?
