I bought a set of rugged ridge manual locking hubs for an m38a1 (52 model) and I was wondering if anyone had any information about the installation of them. http://www.amazon.com/Rugged-Ridge-15001-01-Spline-Locking/dp/B001FANSEE the ones I bought. anyways, from the directions it looks like they bolt on to what I think is called the drive flange. seems to me like they will stick pretty far outside the wheel if that's actually how they are installed. any pictures of your setup and advice on parts and installation would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Jason

They appear to be proper to me. They won't bolt on the drive flange, rather they replace the drive flange. They will bolt directly to the hub housing. _________________ Brett

so what exactly is the drive flange? I am under the impression that it is the part that also has the lug bolts on it to hold drum/wheel on. its a little difficult for me to tell as I have no axle shafts. is there a seal in the axle tube that separates the pinion gears from the axle shafts? anyone have a good write up on the installation of these babies? I have purchased new axle shafts and king pin bearings. still waiting on he wheel bearings. one of the hub bolts was stuck so bad that I had to weld a piece of 3/4' steel pipe to it and torque it off with a pipe wrench. what a mess!
Jason,
There are excellent writeups in the manuals TM 9-8015B, TM 9-8014 and the civvy CJ3A/CJ5 manual SM-1046 as well as the excellent illustrations in the Parts manual ORD 9 SNL G-758.. All are available to you free by going to our web site's "Downloads" page and downloading them in PDF format. Of special importance to you is the CJ manual since it explains very clearly the three different front drive hubs found since your fdront axle may be an M38 unit or could be off A CJ. Only by reading carefully, digesting then applying the info will you be able to completely understand what needs to be done and how.
