Interesting, all vehicles over 40 years old are exempt from a test on this side of the pond.
They still have to be road worthy if you get stopped for speeding:

It has been a while to get a reply on this.
So after setting up the engine after a leaking manifold gasket I wanted to get a CO reading to make sure she was not lean at the top end of the revs.

When I was setting the Tappits I noticed the ventilator parts did not have a Baffle on the body fitted to the side valve cover.
I checked TM9-1804A page 68and it does not show one.

All back together now, went well with no more leaks.
She pulls up hills better now and surprisingly had to re set the carburettor due to a lumpy tickeover. May be something to do with the cracked dow ... |

I have cleaned off the old gasket ready to fit the new.
Do you paint the block under the gasket or around it?

Update.
Got the downpipe braised and replaced with new gaskets.
Went for a run and still have the noise.
So did another air test with the compressed air up the exhaust pipe to find air coming from ... |

Result, just found an air leak.
I did notice when looking around the joint on the down pipe next to the manifold a little bit of black blow by ,but could not feel it with the engine running.
