The front engine plate is different on the generator engine compared with the M38 engine. Both brackets that attach to the frame face backwards on the gen set and only 1 faces backwards on the M38 .

Is there a way to addapt one to the other or do I have to completely remove the gen set plate and replace with the M38 plate?

Thanks

You have 4 options for the left mounting ear.

1-Remove the generator engine plate and install the correct M38 engine front plate with the left ear facing forward and the heavy generator support area.

2-Move the left frame mount aft to align with the wrong plate.

3-Install an extension plate on the left ear that reaches the M38 frame's left mount. This should be at least 1/8" steel or slightly thicker.

4-Cut the left ear off the wrong plate and fabricate a forward facing left ear.

Remember there ar many plates that will fit and work. The CJ3A, CJ3B, M38A1, M170, CJ5, CJ6. Also remember that the reason the left ear was turned to the front was to allow room for the larger dual vacuum/fuel pump the M38 uses.

Wes:

Thanks.

If I try option 3 or 4 can I still use the original fuel/vacuum pump? Or do I have to convert to a civy fuel pump?

Cheers

The pump will not fit behind the early front plate's left ear. If you cut her off and weld a new one facing forward you should be able to make it work. These plates are very easy to find. I would get the later plate and make life easier.
