I'm not sure if this is the right part of the forum, but I wondered if anyone has found a way of providing secure storage for the canvas top in the M38A1. Being in England I need to carry it with me, even when it is sunny, since the rain may come at any time.
I would like something that doesn't look out of place, maybe an ammo box?
Any ideas would be welcome.

Originally the top, curtains and doors were folded up and tied down on top of each rear whell house. Perhaps you could be more specific on what space is available in your jeep and just how much of the top will you plan on storing?

Hi Wes,
Thanks for the picture. Its just the top I need to store, but I would like it in a secure box so it wouldn't disappear.
I have a standard NEKAF so I could put a box on one of the rear wheel arches?

On this same subject where would the storage be in the event of a VRC-10 (RT-6Cool being mounted on the Drivers fender well...

Just curious...

Hi Leo,
If you have a Nekaf with a Dutch top than it is even more difficult to store the top. Those Dutch made tops are more rigid, made from waterproof plastic rather than canvas with oversize nylon "window". They are quite bulky, not really foldable to be placed on the top of the wheelhouses. They are not the right colour, being dark brown or ugly bright green. Until replaced I carry mine rolled up between the rear seat and spare tyre/gas can, secured with rubber straps. Or folded below and above the windshield as somebody recommended here. About theft I do not worry, it is not a good idea to leave the Jeep were you can not see it.

Hi Zoli,
I do have th original Dutch top, but it is in poor condition, so I have bought a replacement canvas top, should fold above wheel arch without problem. did the Dutch make a storage box for the Nekaf?

Hello Leo,
If they did, I do not know about it.
Some people carry stuff in an old ammo box or a wooden box at front of the grill. Wood box is easy to find or make and easy to make oldish looking. What year and what is the serial and engine numbers of your machine? If it is off topic send me a pm or e-mail.

You could tightly fold the top and measure it's folded dimensions. Then have a seamstress fabricate a canvas storage pouch for you. Then you can install several footman loops on the right inner fender (under the hood) and store it there.

When radios were installed in most jeeps tops were not removed to protect the radios from the sun (heat) and inclement weather.

That's a very good idea Wes, you don't think the canvas will get too hot?

Not when installed on the right (passenger) side fender.
