M-38A1 Holland Jeep??

I just bought a jeep with different looking tires made in Holland and all the nomenclature plates are in a language I do not know.. even the engine is in a foreign language... pretty good jeep and I was told it ran, just unloaded it today off my trailer will try to put some pic on and if I can't... email me at neuby47@hotmail. com and I will send a few to a interested party... may sell as is or may restore, don't know yet...

thanks alot, you hit it on the head!!! the title said NEKAF but I had no idea what that meant!! what a great site and I do have the side markers on the jeep like the article said... may restore this just because its kinda different.... thanks for the help... by the way I am also the one that sent the pics of the 1941 GP... CRAIG

The side markers are side signal lights. They were required in Holland.

Does anyone know if this type of jeep is worth more or less than a normal m38a1??? if its worth less I could get new nomenclature plates and take off the side signal lights and then it basically looks the same, the tires are all original made in Holland but they are weather checked and probably not road worthy anyway... just wondering what direction I should go with the restoration process.. thanks

The Nekaf is a Dutch license build M38A1.
Nekaf stands for NEderlandse KAiser FAbriek (Dutch Kaiser factory).

In the fifties Kaiser had set up a local factory in Rotterdam to build the dutch M38A1's.
It closed arround 1960 and the last part of the order was build by a local Dutch company (Kemper en van Twist Diesel NV).
There are not much differences between the Nekaf and the US version. Except for things as the headlights, the side light and the reflectors on the front fenders and of course the dutch language on the plates. Here we have still a lot of them on the road (+1000) and that is because our army used them till the end of the last century.
I do have my own one that is build in 1957 and a complete set of documentation in the dutch language. So when you want to learn a foreign language, just ask !!.[/u]

Hi Craig,
There are a few other differences between US and Dutch built jeeps. One of them is the fiberglass front fenders and lower part of the tub. They do not rust and probably saving some weight too. A Dutch parts supplier told me that was the way the Dutch ordered it from Willys. There are more modifications on them.

Thanks, you know I thought the fenders seem to bend a little, never looked that close, just surprised there was no rust, now I know why!!!! thanks, its great to learn about this jeep and more and more I want to restore it instead of just selling it...have a great day...

The front fender are also in the Netherlands the standard metal versions and I have never seen a (ex) military version with polyester fenders.
The are after market products because the origional version are not available anymore.
The bottoms of the tub's is something different. As the Jeeps are used quite long in this rather wet cpountry rust was developing and the bottoms rusted out. That is why he Dutch army decided to replace the metal tub bottoms with a polyester one. Most of the current Nekaf's have that "plastic" tub bottom and I must say that it makes life much easyer.

thanks, I checked my fenders and they are steel, thought they felt like more plastic at first... I know my tub must be steel as the bottom of the passenger side is rusted out ... oh well still like it.. got to take the time to get her running now... thanks again...
