Check out the difference in my old water pump pulley and the one that came on my new water pump.
Notice with the rear edge of the two pullies aligned that there is almost a 1/4" difference in the alignment of the fan mounting surface. Once I had my new pulley on far enough to align with the crankshaft pulley my fan just barely cleared my alternator pulley.
Next notice the spacing between the front and rear grooves on the pulley. I aligned the rear groove with the crankshaft pulley but its obvious I was never going to get anything close to aligned on the front one.
Now my question. In order to remove the old pulley from the water pump shaft I had to grind off two tack welds on the face of the pulley between the end of the shaft and the pulley. Was it normal practice to weld on the pulley....and if I opt to reuse this pulley on my new pump should I consider welding it again? Thanks for any and all responses. _________________ Jim

The pulley on the left is the repro that most dealers sell. It is not manufactured correctly and the offset as you pointed out is wrong. The belts do not run in a straight line. Additionally, the pulley was not machined properly and the press fit was sloppy, resulting the need for welding the pulley to the shaft. Another fine repro part from the far east.
