Hi there,
todays question is as follows Rolling Eyes
The fuel sending unit might be damaged and seems to be changed. As I told on another article my M38 is mixed with an CJ-3A and runs with 6 Volt. What I don´t know from which Jeep the attached unit is (I´m asking before I ordering 2 or 3 times wrong Confused ....)???
Thanks to all for helping me.

that is a 6v cj2a/3a/3b/5 sending unit from a civilian gas tank. M38 units are longer and have a waterproof douglas connection. I hope this is what you were asking. thanks Zane

The unit may also be an aftermarket repro unit. If you are leaving the jeep 6 or 12 volt then it would be wise to buy a matched gauge and sender set that are designed to function together. The new aftermarket gauge/sender sets come with an adjustable sender and are designed, electrically, to function correctly together.

If you are returning the jeep to 24 volts then by all means buy the correct sender and gauge. John at Midwest Military stocks them.

As you are in Germany, you might like to try H.O Wildenberg, email is info@wildenbergparts.com

H.O Wildenberg
Warehouse:
Remmerden 44
Rhenen, Holland
Tel: +31 (0) 317-618218
Fax: +31 (0) 317-615515

they have helped me with parts.
They are a bit more expensive for me due to the exchange rate but the delivery costs can be better.

Many thanks for the Wildenberg adress!
If I see it right on their Homepage is a sending unit (Jeep MB) which looks like the same as mine to me....will this one also work on my vehicle?

http://www.wildenbergparts.nl/jeep/3/7/Electricalgroup

I didn't find any M38 correct electrical parts listed on the HO Wildenberg site.

If your fuel tank is an M38 tank then the MB sender will not index correctly. and the float travel will be incorrect. The float travel (vertical) is much greater on the MB then the M38 or CJ3A.

If I understand your original post correctly then you are leaving your M38 with it's CJ3A type 6 volt system. Since you have no way to ascertain that the current gauge and sender are a matched pair and no way to assure that any sender you purchase will match the gauge you now have. As I suggested earlier the best course of action is to buy a brand new after market universal type gauge and sender set.

Try this European web site and ask for the 6 volt version of the gauge and sender I have showing.
