On my '51 M38 was a small 1.5 X 3 inch plate rivited to the lower left dash corner. It covered the hole that the winch switch goes in. I saw a date in the paint, but when stripped ---WOW! : RECONDITIONED, U. S. ARMY JAPAN DEPOT COMPLEX ( IROAN ) DATE 29 DEC 60, ODOM 01352 Does this mean my Jeep was in Korea, then Japan? Only Japan? Definate proof of some kind of history or service. I sent the picture to WES K. , maybe he can post it for you guys. I haven't set up a seperate server to post pictures. Does odom mean odometer reading? It has 26,900 on the clock now. 1352 miles from 1951 to 1960? I'm re-doing the black backround and will put it back! Finding this stuff sets me off! I like it! John |

Hello John,
Odometers were changed quite often in the military. The jeep's motor pool records would show when the odometer was changed and the correction factor for total miles. These records were disposed when the jeep was declared surplus to the service's needs. I doubt very much that the 01352 was total mileage of the jeep in 1960.
It presence in Japan in 1960 does not in away assure it served anywhere else in the far east or Asia.
Doesn't say we can't imagine or dream.

Wes, thanks for getting me off the picture hook. The area around the outside border and boxes was black. I'll put it back. I got so excited I took the picture about 15 minutes after I stripped and discovered it. John |

Not really John, I maybe just lucky that the past owners look after her.
I also wonder how many more jeep owners has this Japan Reconditioned Plate?
