|
|
Hi again,
sadly my M38 is a mixture with an Cj-3A. So my
todays question is about the tail gate. Actually its fixed with a chain on every both sides. But they are knocking all the thime I drive. I have seen some M38 with screwed tail gates. Is this a legitime way? Did military used srews also? I´m asking because if I cut them off there is no way back. They are without screws on my car.
Thank you for helping me!

Normal tailgate chains have a canvas cover on them to keep them from banging when you drive. |

I have both the chains and the bolts. At times I want to use the tailgate, like when I go hunting or carry something, then the chains come in handy. |

The Willys MB (and Ford GPW) had no folding tail gate, neither did the follow-on M38A1. The M38, being a "militarized" CJ3A, retained the tailgate but it was bolted shut as described in the pic above. Since the tailgate was the mounting point for the spare tire and the gas can, opening it would be a challenge anyway. _________________ 1951 M38 |
