Claudio,
The ID plates are on, but they do not show any reference to M606A 1-2 or 3 only the regular 8305, CJ5 stuff. Engine number is military (MDXXXXX) just like the M38A1. Engine is original its number and the number on the dash plate match.

Zoli,

Since Willys never matched engine serials to body serials I can say with a great probability of being correct that someone has committed a fraudulent act and stamped a serial plate for your body with the MDXXXX engine number. The odds are much more in favor that the MDXXXXX engine was placed in that chassis several years after the chassis left Willy/Kaiser. The M606 series jeeps left Willys/Kaiser with civilian engines period.

Wes,
The engine number is not matched to the serial number, but to the engine number listed on the dash plate. The number is not stamped, but etched on the plate. The number is the same except it is starting with 4J on the dash plate and MD on the block. Block stamping look original with the two different style 1 seen on other blocks as well. The jeep is in original condititon, I do not think the Swiss Army was playing with dash plates and restamping blocks. The previous owner had no idea about anything on the jeep and unlikely that he was into making plates and numbers up. If the jeep was produced for the Swiss Army it is not possible that military numbered blocks were used and they (the Swiss) required the engine number to show up on the dash plate? Have pictures if needed.

It is more likely the Swiss installed a rebuilt MD engine in the Jeep during it's service with the Swiss. There is no evidence in this country that Willys or Kaiser installed any MD engines in CJ5's to support the overseas sales programs.
