What I believe to be a 1952 M38 has no compartment for two 12 V batteries in the cowl. No compartment on the passenger side. Did all 1952 M38's have a battery compartment in the cowl. Help! Sad

All M38's had a battery in the cowl. On the M38, it was only one battery in the cowl, other under the hood. Its the M38a1 that had both in the cowl and was a later year. Are your fenders flat or rounded like a CJ5? M38's are flat. Perhaps you have a CJ3A or a M38 thats been worked over? Are there data plates on the dash and one behind the passenger seat on the wheel well?
Pics will help a lot.

Welcome to the board!

Another easy way to tell what you have, is the E-brake handle on the the left side of the steering wheel it`s a m38. If it`s in the center of the dash by the gauges it`s a CJ-3A

After looking at the pictures I believe it is definitely not a M38A1. The front fenders are flat so maybe it is a M#^ Tub. . However, the cowl does not have a compartment for a battery on the driver's side. It could be a M38 Bucket replacement bought on the market place according to some Jeep stores. There is no serial number plate behind the front passenger seat. Also there is no serial number plate on the dash. I'm hoping the chassis is a M38. It does have a large tubular front axle on the front of Jeep.

Ben,

Email me your photos and I'll put them up. The final answer is in your photos. Send me a closeup of the inside of the front frame rails between the grill and bumper and a closeup of the bushing block that the brake and clutch pedals mount to. And finally a photo of the dash from both sides.
