Does any one know where you can get the correct style of clamp that holds the clutch release cable boot to the bell housing? It apprears to be the type of clamp that you can squeeze together with a paitr of pliers and the teeth on the clamp catch as the clamp gets tighter. _________________ Bill

This is a great question. At one time I started looking to the avionincs industry for these clamps but have not yet found them new. I have rusty samples of the small and large ones.
They might have been made by Tinnerman but I dont have any additional informaiton.
Our resident classic avaition rep may have more detail.
Chuck - do you have a picture of what Debella and MWM are supplying?
They are Tinnerman clamps and were very common up through the 70's in aviation. Particularly on Oxygen hoses and cooling/heating ducts. Tinnerman was bought out by a European company a couple of years ago by the name Araymond.

That's the clamp. Fortunatley I was able to save and reuse the small clamp that goes around the cable. Just need to locate a source for the larger one for the bell housing. _________________ Bill

The dash 16 represents a max diameter of 16/16's " or 1". The - numbers are 1/16" increments. _________________ Wes K

Thought I resurrect this old post as these Tinnerman clamps are still impossible to find.
I was thinking of using a CV joint boot clamp ("ear clamp") instead. The clamp for the small end of a CV boot seems to be sized right for the large end of the M38 clutch cable boot and the style seems very close to the Tinnerman.
The ORD9, page 53, clamp part number 8328435 is 1-3/8's inch diameter.

Thanks Brian, I thought about using a regular hose clamp (several styles available and easy to find them all in the size needed at any auto parts store). Out of sight, and no jeep police in my future, so if I can't find original Tinnerman clamps, why not? Even though the CV clamps aren't original, they are as inexpensive as hose clamps ($2 each) and being close to the Tinnerman style at least I'd know I tried to be faithful. For what that might be worth.
Thanks Wes. Yes, I did, and am still looking. The size you posted is too small, I haven't been able to locate the correct size, and at $15 each I'm debating the practicality versus $2 for the CV clamp, a close second. My search for originality in detail on my M38 only goes so far at the moment. Maybe when everything else gets done I'll circle back to the Tinnerman search.
I was just fishing for opinions on the CV style clamps, if anybody has used them before, M38 or otherwise, and any issues to look out for. I never laid a hand on one before. _________________ Ron D.

My experience with the CV joint style clamps are they are a one time use clamp in most cases. It would help if when you wish to discuss the use of a part other then the original designed part if you then included a photo of at least the the substitute clamp so we can all get on the same comparison page.
I'll try to help out with a couple of examples of what I think you are referring to:
140mm to 160mm narrow screw type CV joint clamp
Ear type CV joint clamp
Band type CV joint clamp _________________ Wes K

Hi Wes. In my post I did say "ear type" CV clamps and provided links to a short video showing one being installed and a vendor's web page for the correct size needed for the large end of the clutch cable boot -- CV40.
Yes, I realize these are "one time" clamps, but at $2 each that's not much of an expense for as often as they need to be replaced.
I thought the Tinnerman clamps were one-time only as well. Were they designed to be used more than once? _________________ Ron D.
