but decided to start a separate thread for this question.
Getting ready to pull my dist, check it over and rebuild if necessary/possible. I've read through the download on repair/rebuild of the distributor several times and read other info here too.
All the numbers for distributors I see are the IA, IC or IG numbers. I'm guessing those are Prestolite numbers. My Superior dist has number SM-1004 on it.
I'm a novice at all of this, so "I don't know what I don't know" yet , so this probably sounds like a dumb question to those who know, but . . .
Can anyone tell me which dist my Superior dist is equivalent to so that I know which specs to use for the rebuild?
From Wes' reply I'm guessing it is one of these three
The IAU4004UT and IAU4006UT distributors use advance curve C2-P22.
The IAU4006AUT used advance curve 1046

See you at the Old Jeep Rendezvous in Ashton, Idaho 9:00 am - Noon on the first Saturday after July 4th. All pre-1970 Jeep vehicles, military or civilian, stock or modified welcome.
That distributor should also have an Ordnance Part Number or Ordnance Stock number or FSN (Federal Stock Number) or NSN (National Stock Number) on it. There should also be a Mil Spec Number there as well. Post all of your numbers and photos of the distributor. Make sure your photo file sizes are below 125K.
That company was late in the game as a vendor for the Army and in all likelihood it's going to be equivalent to the later distributor. _________________ Wes K

Here are the numbers I can see. Dist still in engine, so reading them upside down using dental mirror:
Spec No. MIL-D-13791
Ordnance No. 7358??0
Serial No. 36190
I have a pic but need to check it's size so I'll post that later.
Thanks,

Excellent, thanks! The two missing numbers were unreadable and I took a guess at the last one, which was partially unreadable, which turns out to be a 9 instead of a 0.
So my Superior dist is the same as the Auto-Lite/Prestolite IAU4006AUT. _________________ 1953 M38A1 (His)

Yes. And all parts interchange between those with the same ORD #. The Army had several manufacturers building those distributors to the same mil spec. _________________ Wes K
