Maybe I found the explanation for why my M38 is covered everywhere inside/out and even underneath including the original military installed Kelly hard top too with a chrome yellow paint. Even the steering wheel. The West Virginia DOT as the source for the yellow now looks less plausible.

Cool picture either way from NASA.

It very well could be a USAF flight line jeep.

In previous posts I highlighted the helper coil springs in the rear. No evidence of a "cannon" ever being installed. But clearly a large and heavy radio or toolbox was installed in the rear of the jeep while painted in yellow.

Also on the hood and top are evidence of stripes being painted front to rear kind of like a "Follow Me" vehicle.

I believe the top has "For Official Use Only" painted on the top front edge.

Time to do some paint stripping... Wink

Hello, any progress since February? I would love to see more photos. In the near future I have to find the correct shade of yellow for my own project (ex Iran-Army M38).

From the movie "The Hunters", 1958.

More pictures in my subalbum:

Judging by the height of the hood above the flat front fenders in the first photo with the XB70 I'd say that jeep was actually a CJ3B.
