In the M38 maintenance manual it states in paragraph 112 that the oil filler pipe is a drive fit in the crankcase and to not reinstall a used one. Mine has been loosey-goosey for years and, of course, leaks just like the manual warns. Anyone have a slick way of re-expanding the end to get a tight fit, short of having access to an expander like those used in muffler work? _________________ Jim McKim

Find access to a beading tool in that diameter range.

Clamp or epoxy a ring to the tube just above the intersecting point with the block. Just about 1/2 the thickness of the "O" ring you choose to seal the gap between the tube and the block. Slip the "O" ring over the bottom of the tube and slid it up against the ring/clamp, push the tube down snug and insert the bolt up near the top.

Use a quality fuel/oil resistance stay soft sealant like Pro-Seal and coat that part of the tube that slides in the block for a very permanent fit or apply a 1/8" bead at the juncture of the tube and the block for a more removable arrangement. _________________ Wes K

Poor man's fix I did was find a socket that just slightly expands the inner diameter of the tube and test fit the tightness. Don't wang it in there and expand it too much. Then I lightly coated the outside with permatex and tapped it down until it bottomed. Remember, you may want to take it back out. John
