I have a wheel well mounted Willys-Overland ID plate. My question is....were the dash plates Willys required, are were they part of the specs required by the Military??? I think the wheel well tag is the true I D, not the dash plates.
Also would anyone know if Willys actually install the dash plates at the time of manufacture or did the Military install them?

Both the dash plates and the wheel house plate were installed at the Willys or Kaiser factory. Both had exactly the same serial number on them.

More often than not when the dash plate does not match the number on the wheel house plate it is because when the owner bought the better used tub and installed it on his jeep he was not aware of the often overpainted wheel house plate and just relocated the dash plate set from his old tub to the new tub.

or there was a restamp at the motorpool and they just didn't care to check when putting the plates back.
