When the headlights are on dim the bright light indicator is illuminated
just wondering which wire could be crossed or which circuit i need to try and trace down to solve this problem Question

There is a color-coded wiring diagram available in the Downloads area under M38/Electrical that should help you track dwon where the indicator should be connected (wire #17), assuming you have a stock wiring system. Probably just needs to be connected to the other output terminal of the dimmer switch.

Most likely you have 17 from the hi beam indicator lamp connected to 18 on the dimmer switch. 17 from the headlight and 17 from the high beam indicator belong together at the dimmer switch. 16 is power to the dimmer switch from the light switch. 18 is low beam from the dimmer switch to the headlights.
