Prefer finding an MT-298, however:
I currently have an RT 68 mounted on the driver side rear fender panel. I plan to add an RT 67 to the right fender panel. Both will use MT-299 GR mounts.
Failing to find an MT-298 I am exploring using my two MT-299 mounts (one on each fender panelof an M38). Not a typical setup, but one for which I have everything.
My question is how can I power tow MT-299"s and will the M38 handle such a setup?
Of course if some one has an MT-298 available let me know. I would prefer a typical mount. What would be needed to get both RT's functioning on an MT-297?
I assume you're trying to link an Arty and Inf setup. The VRQ-2 or VRQ-3 would be complete with 2 RT-67's or 2 RT-68's respectively and two PP-112 power supplies and a C-434 control all mounted on a MT-298.
What you are describing is two seperate VRC-8 and VRC-9's each mounted on a MT-299 as they should be and each with a PP-112 Power supply.
These would typically have two antennas and mounts usually the MP-50 on the left rear corner and the ABG-449 on the spare tire mount.
You cannot have a VRQ-1, -2 or -3 on a MT-299 because there's not enough room.
You are describing you have the parts to actually almost complete two VRC- setups. In your case a RT-68 Infin. unit and an RT-67 Arty. unit. No matter which way you go the RT-67 and -68 will each need a PP-112 power supply. You will have to split your jeeps radio harness even up (two sets of wires coming from one plug to connect to the two seperate MT-299 mounts.
This type of Como would usually be accomadated by a GRC-3, -4, or -5 which mounts acros the rear of the jeep without a back seat installation. These units will have the two RT's and one aux reciever.
The reason you saw very few M38's with large radio sets after the M38A1 entered service is because those large sets are just too heavy for the M38 so the Army went with the A1 carrying all the heavy stuff. _________________ Wes K

Thanx Wes. I'm thinking I'd like to retain the rear seat, so going with two separate VRQ configurations. So what I understand you saying is I split the power leads to the two MT-299's, correct?
In that case I would just set her up as a VRQ-2 on one side and a VRQ-3 on the other using MT-299 mounts and when you split the harness do it at the cannon plug by wiring seperated new wires to one side and soldering them to the pins if you're only going to use one radio at a time or add a second piece of 18 Ga angle and a second power feed from the batteries if you want to operate both at the same time. _________________ Wes K
