M416 trailer springs are the same spring. Saturn Surplus had NOS springs for sale a while ago for cheap money. |

RPW have you actually fitted a pair of the 416 springs to the front of a M38? I am curious. Their ordnance part numbers aren't even close ORD# 7328358 for the 416 spring and ORD# 7697599 for the M38.
When searching for each units FSN or NSN the results are:
M416 - 2510-00-732-8358,cancelled -> replaced by 2510010587420
M38 - 2510-00-769-7599 Alternate 2510-00-293-4119
It appears that the main difference is the M38 7/16" pivot bolt vs the M416 3/8" pivot bolt. _________________ Wes K

Wes, No I have not mounted them. I have researched the issue via off road web sites that also involve trailer rebuilds. There are numerous references to installing front flat fender springs into trailers. I got into this when I was looking to buy a M416 that needed new springs. I ended up finding a nicer one instead. Couldn't the bolt size difference be easily accommodated by changing the bushing?
I also did a quick check of Saturn's site, but they no longer list the NOS springs for the M416 (just the M101 now available). |

Most of those references are about using the 8 leaf MB springs on WWII Bantam and Willys & etc. trailers.
Anything can be adapted to anything. Just depends on time and money. I would suspect that the spring rates (load ability) are not the same either. The part numbers and NSN's for the two different springs never cross to each other and I suspect for good reason. _________________ Wes K
