A couple of new military radio questions.

I see that there is the CW 329 cover
and the CW 330 cover available and both I am being told are appropriate for my RT 68 radio. The CW 329 is longer (although it has snaps to make it shorter) but the CW 330 fits better. Does anyone know the difference?
Also, I go the antennae "eye protector" ball tip, but it is too wide to fit on the top of my antenna. Again, any suggestions?

The 329 will work, but there is a lot of extra canvas after you adjust it, and its never really a tight fit. The 330 was designed for just for the AN/VRC 8,9 & 10, so it fits properly.

There is a small and large ball for different antennas. You will need the small one to fit the ms-118. We used to use 100mph tape to secure the ball, but I used black electrical tape on my Jeep antenna.

Hi there!

If you after a tip for your antenna ASAP. What you can do is what we had to do in the Australian Army as a stop gap repair for the 292 antenna mast elements. This came about after a fatal accident where whilst erecting a 292 antenna mast one of the elements pieced his eye and went into his brain.

Just a timely reminder for those who may not have something on the tip of their antennas.

You get a small "super ball", drill a suitable diameter hole about 1/2~3/4 of the way through. Place to ball on the tip and securely tape it with electrical tap.
This will provide a safe tip until such time as you can acquire the correct type of tip.

All good field expedient methods. I've seen small rubber balls, stress balls, just about anything small and round that is soft-ish used. Plenty of 100 MPH tape (OD Green) or electrical tape works great. But don't forget the tied down clips and line to keep the antenna close to the vehicle when not in the field. Keeps you from hitting branches, people, wires, etc, etc.
You're going to have one high class, sharp jeep when you're done with all the work you've been putting into it. Maybe a slide show on your experience and the progress/changes?

Thanks whydahdvr. (That was weird to type). As with any project, your plans expand as you get into it. Plus, this jeep being over 60 years old, and not well maintained, I've ended up replacing everything (and I mean everything, even the rusted out frame). I have a final few things to finish up, and I'll take plenty of pictures. I wish I had "in progress" shots, but I only have like 4! When I bought it, they had painted shiny new coats of paint over everything. Rust, cracks, everything. I had no idea what i was in for.
