Well my name is Rick , I have had 40's CJ's for over 10 years now, I just bought this nice 47' is somewhat road worthy condition, runs really well but I wanna do a full motor tune up, anyone recognize this motor and know what vehicle it would have come out of so I can get some parts at local store. here is my 46' I just sold, V8 powered, was just a mud racing toy
Looks like a Buick V-6 but it could be one of several versions. The second version was the odd fire 225 that jeep used from 66 through 72.
The front distributor and right front oil filter will prove that.
But the rights to that engine were bought back by Buick in 1972 and they pressed on with a 231 odd fire version and then a 231 even fire version and later increased the displacement to 252. _________________ Wes K

No. The odd fire distributor for the first three models of that engine had an asymmetrical arrangement of the leads in the cap. The 231 even fire and the 252 had a symmetrical lead arrangement. But one keep in mind one distributor can be adapted to the other engine.
Try taking some better detailed photos of the engine top, bottom, front, rear and sides. Take the air cleaner off.
