Hello all;
I am looking for an NOS or really good M38 sector shaft. Anyone?

I will assume you have checked out the rest of your steering system and you only need the sector shaft. By the time this needs to be replace, there is usually a good deal more that is in need of repair. With that said............
Good used ones do not show up often, I would bite the bullet and check with a known surplus dealer and buy an NOS sector shaft for a correct fit. You will pay top dollar for it, but it will fit and work as it should. You should also check your bushings, seal, bearings, and cups along with the steering shaft since you are going to have everything apart. If you find any excessive wear, I would look at replacing those parts as well. _________________ Harold W.

Do not buy the Omix Ada steering shaft with worm. My loss is your gain. The ball bearing race is so rough it feels like boulders are in there. Finding the 42 1/2 inch shaft is not that easy. WCR4 jeep Parts has ones made in the USA. I just ordered one. John |

Be careful with any of them. Some WCR4 sells are 7/8", I need the 15/16" shaft. Did you get the correct diameter shaft for yours? My old sector shaft is good, even the bushings. The only thing worn were the two nubbins that interact with the steering worm gear. I have a NOS bearing and race kit. The steering worm gear is also very good. This jeep had only 28000 miles on it, almost all desert driving. I suspect the two nubbins were worn because of the nature of rough roads. WCR4 is looking to see if they have good one. No other supplier I have contacted has any. _________________ Dan Schultz

Don't forget since the sector shaft is larger on the M38's, so is the hole and splines on the pittman arm. The length of the worm gear shaft is longer. Horn button operation and adjustment different too. A odd ball unit for sure. Then compare draglinks, and bellcranks between differnet model Jeeps. It gets interesting. My M38 had a strange home made sleeve at the base of the outside column. Guess what, it had a longer yet worm gear shaft in it from I believe a Jeep pickup. Bubba can do some amazing thing! John |

He sells mainly on Ebay, has great NOS parts and really good service. I think it is WCFR4. _________________ Dan Schultz
