Looking to buy just the little white HIGH BEAM and FUEL decals for my gauge panel.

I know a popular vendor sells an entire water-transfer decal set that has two of everything for the entire jeep for $24 delivered, but that's a little pricey just to get a HIGH BEAM and FUEL decal. Might anybody have left-overs from this set they'd sell for a fair price?

I was thinking of using a Brother PTouch label maker, but a roll of white on clear tape with outdoor adhesive is $15-$20 delivered and 26 feet of tape is long enough to make way more than I'd ever need....and they might not look right anyway.

Anybody making stencils that small?

I had the same problem. I took photos and measurements off a Jeep that had the decals and took them to a shop that does vinyl lettering. They made up what I needed along with a few other things. I had extras made but have since given them all away or I'd just give them to you. You can't tell them from the original decals and going on four years they still look great.

Good luck!

Hi Tim,
Thanks! That's a good idea. I think there's a vinyl sign shop just down the road from me.

By any chance, do you still have those measurements and a photo you can publish here? Do you recall the font style and size? I don't have anything to go by.

I assume the cost wasn't too painful so I can have some extras made and pay it forward like you did.

Thanks again!

Ron,

These letters were originally silk-screened on. I'm not sure why no one has made a silk screen to repop them. I plan to do that sometime, just haven't gotten there yet. The next best thing is to use vinyl rub-on lettering. Just go to your local arts and crafts store.....Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc and pick up a sheet of Chartpak Vinyl Lettering #01006 in size 1/4 inch White. For $2 you'll get enough letters to do 10+ instrument panels so you don't have to worry about screwing up a few times. And the font is pretty darn close to what was originally used, so as Tim said......they look good. They look way better than the clear vinyl background stickers on eBay. Never tried the water transfers, but wonder about their durability. The website for Chartpak is www.chartpak.com.

regards,
bob

Midwest Military has these decals and every other decal that the jeeps used for both M38 and the 38A1. All you gotta do is call and ask.
Fuel and High Beam are $1.90 ea.
Regards
John

John, thank you too! You're the 1st person I think of for everything on a M38 --- but vinyl --- it never occurred to me to ask! I'm learning.

And if I haven't said it lately: this website and the folks on it are a genuine gold mine!

I have several original instrument panel plates. The high beam and fuel markings on all of them were applied by rubber stamp from the looks of the letters. They are all the early type with the holes for the circuit breaker and connector bracket. I went to an office supply office and got one of those adjustable rubber stamps with letters. Easy enough to find with four characters (years ago).

With John having such a great deal on them I guess you don't need me to see if I can find the artwork for them. I would be glad to look but it might be a week or so as I am recovering from surgery and not moving around too much yet.

Hi Tim,
True, I did place an order from John this morning. They're one-piece preassembled vinyl transfers that I couldn't pass on the price and simple application. I'll post a couple of photos here when I get them.

I think that your solution as well as Bob's are both very good, and if John didn't have any I'd be using them --- so If I may suggest that when you're up and about feeling better, posting your work here could still benefit other members? And I'd still like to see it anyhow.

The rubber stamp solution also seems good to me, but I wonder --- ink or paint?

Having multiple great solutions all in one post sure helps the search function trying to sift through 50,000+ posts!

Thanks again, and regards,

We've all been there...looking for the elusive item. I had the instrument panel but it had some rust on it and the fire department had painted it red. I sandblasted, primed and painted it OD but needed those two little labels to finish it. John is so good at stocking these hard to find items that he deserves our support.

Regarding vinyl graphics - my daughter is a Graphic Designer so when I need something made "just so" I turn her loose on it. She gives me the digital file which I give to the vinyl shop and they just cut from that.

Enjoy your Jeep!
Tim
