Is .0625" taller a show-stopper (won't fit the M38 cannister)? _________________ Ron D.

I was out of the country for the last three weeks and wanted to post an update. As always I appreciate everyones input. My air filter assembly is an Oakes type from an MB or GPW. I wound up buying an NOS air filter from Army Jeep Parts. It was around $35.00. It looks to be identical from the one I showed in the picture. I installed it today, it fit perfectly. |

So all along you were showing us an MB air cleaner element for use in an MB Oakes type air cleaner. While all along we were all assuming you are on the post WWII Willys M Jeeps board so you would be talking about an M38 or M38A1 filter.
Well at least share with us the part number of this NOS unit that fits your MB's Oakes air cleaner so well? _________________ Wes K

Sorry for the confusion Wes. My jeep is an M38 but pretty much everything in the engine bay is MB or GPW including the air filter.
I thought that the M38 used the same air filter as the MB so I did not think that I needed to specify which air cleaner I had. I came to this conclusion because on the Army Jeep Parts web site it lists the air filter I bought under both the MB/GPW and the M38.
As far as the part number, on the Army Jeep Parts web site it is WO-A5630. This number is consistent with one of the part numbers shown for the M38 air filter in Ord 9. It did not come in its original box but was still wrapped with the brown anti corrosion paper I've seen on other NOS parts. It is identical in every respect to the one that had the mouse issue and it fits perfectly. |
