I'm a little embarrassed but I forgot what paint color that I used. Can anyone tell me if this is 23070 or 24087 by these pictures? I tossed my old cans and didn't check the number. I need to order paint so I can get my tub painted.

Buy one can of each in Rattle Cans and then go from there... I did the same ended up with a case of one I cannot use at this time... good thing paint last a loong time if not used and stored properly...

I would suggest you go with Hal's advice.

Why? See below!

It looks like 24087 to me but the tints on pictures can be deceiving. I think there are three different manuf. supplying paint. Gillespie from Rapco and the like, Picco from Brent Mullins, and RFJP-G503 has says they have a different supplier but didn't name it when I talked with them.
I started with Mullins 24087 that at that time it was manufactured by American Coatings. When I had need of more several years later he had changed to Picco as a manufacturer. I have used it and it is just a barely perceptible shade different from the American Coatings version. I recently had the opportunity to get some Gillespie in a rattle can and it is several shades different from the Mullins 24087. I have not compared any of G503 paint.

It will probably be helpful to you if you know were you got your first paint as there is some difference in the shade between the different manufacturers even though they all say 24087 or what ever paint code.

at first glance the paint on the rims looks more brown than what my 23070 paint looks like and so i think its 24087 but like other have said buy a can of each or go into your emails or website account and search for your past order

You could check with the vendor you bought paint from. They might be able to look up your order.

I purchased from RAPCO but it was over 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure it was 24087 but I think I'll order a rattle can just to be sure. I believe that I went with 24087 so it would be closer to any NOS part. Maybe my logic is flawed. Not really sure.

Interesting how different my wheels and battery box look in different lighting.

Either way, I'm getting really close to painting my tub. Good news after so many years.

OK now I’m really confused. Everything I’ve read until now has said that 2430 and 24087 were the same color just that the military went from four digit to five digit code. I understand that different suppliers and different batches might vary but in principle they are the same so where does 23070 come in?

2430 is not the same as 24087. 2430 is slightly greenish/gray OD while 24087 is more brownish. 2430 was used on the M38/M38A1/M170,M606, M606A1, M606A2 and M715's by Willys/Kaiser thru the 60's. However the 4 digit military paint spec system was replaced around 1954 by the FS595 standard 5 digit system. Any of these vehicles that got repainted in the field after 1954 were usually repainted with 24087. There is no equivalent to 2430 in the 5 digit FS595 spec system and there is no equivalent to 24087 in the 4 digit system.

23070 was a marketing scam code invented by a MV dealer to ID their new "Look-a-Like" late WWII OD paint that the other dealer was selling. The only X3070 series paint ever in the FS595 system was an odd, stand alone, 33070.

The RAL numbers have been discussed a few times here and on the M38/M38A1 Facebook page.

Received one can of each yesterday and did a test spray. Rapco has very fast shipping.

As discussed, 23070 has more of a green tint when compared to the brownish tint of the 24087.
