Fixed a fender today for where a giant chunk was missing inside by the frame,

Spent way too much time working on my cowl battery box lid. The old one was too far gone.
Had to modify one fastener tab on the md Juan replacement.

It’s close to 1/4” off.

And the new Hong is bigger and the holes do not align.

I used rivnuts to secure it

Lots of sanding today in prep for more epoxy.

Like a barbie.. there are so many accessories!

Everything is sanded. Epoxy bound.

opened my cans of paint. they appear to be the same grey color.. so i mixed them both in a 3 gallon bucket and get one color for sure.

Right now most of the items are in epoxy, with a few exceptions that need to be turned over for another application on the opposite side. (top bows, seats, engine bay batter box etc).

Time go go dethatch (or at least start that ) process in the front yard while everything drys. Weather is cooperating.

May get some body putty put on some fenders this afternoon later.

A bunch of stuff in Epoxy primer.

Since then, Ive had to move all the little pieces inside because i expect rain today. The rest just has to sit outside without cover. Most collected in the jeep tub for now.

Last night I got side tracked and checked on the canvas seat cushions. They will fit just fine once I am ready to install them. I had been looking around for some marine grade plywood, but the cost and availability was ridiculous. I actually have a piece of HDPE starboard plastic that I bought many years ago for a different project. I can cut that up and use it for the seat pan.

I bought another piece same size so I can do both seat pans with it but that delivery wont be till next week. It was cheaper to buy the other piece of Starboard plastic than to buy a sheet of plywood.

anyway, this is the seat cushion on the passenger seat just mocked up.

Used Star brute waterproofing. Just poured the contents onto a spray bottle and went to town on it.

Had to test it

Did some sanding...

And painting.

On the left is just epoxy primer. On the right is the rear seat with my lusterless navy blue grey paint.

After it was dry, I added the canvas to the rear seat.

Need to make my seat pans for the front seats before I add the canvas.

Ground the grease bolt down

Hit the pin with my trusty ball peen hammer- it split.

I have a piece of 2x4 1/2" thick black starboard plastic sheet that I cut up for bottom front seat pans. I used "t" nuts for holding the panel once I thread in the bolts.

I think it went well. was just as easy to cut it with a jig saw as it would have been plywood.

I still have a piece left over for whatever I need it for.

Will attach seat cushions later today. I didn't get far last night- left work and went to the airport and picked up my Mother (nana) who will be staying at the house watching the 3 dogs while I deploy … again...

Hi April,
Those sheets sure are nice material (friend uses them on his boat), and in keeping with your nautical theme. They'll still be in good shape 100 years from now. I like it.

I used exterior grade plywood, sanded well and coated a few times with a mix of turpentine and linseed oil, then primed and painted OD.

What are you going to do with the busted pintle? Weld it back up?

I am about to sail on another deployment- return in December. Lets see what I get done between now and departure.

We failed to make it on the shake down due to several generator failures- one of the sister ships had the exact same problem, and their generator ran away on them and blew up. They are stuck pier side for an additional 5 weeks to get a new one. they stopped making those engines in 1981.....

Today I have a tech rep from the governor control company who rebuilt our governor, and a tech rep from Caterpillar who made the engine to watch us start our generator. I guarentee you the CAT tech will show up and say
"yup, thats an old cat" and know nothing about it.

so instead of sailing on a shakedown, I came home and worked on my seats.
Good inside project since it was raining.

And since the passenger seat was original and I did not bang the dents out or sand it completely smooth... I left a little note.

My Grandpa (mothers father) was an inspector at shipyard in Boston at the beginning of WW2. He went off to fly as a Navigator in B24's and went back to the shipyard after the war. He used to leave "Doug was here too" next to anything that was graffiti and of course near any Kilroy markings.

Started taking the grill apart so i can sand and prime it.

got half way thru sanding before i had to cook dinner.
Will get back on it tomorrow.

Two layers of green. (no primer). a coat of yellow and a coat of blue.

If you have seen "USED CARS" with Kurt Russell, you know "its the primer"....

And I got this little thing for fun! I am going to put it on my jeep- authentic or not, I am going to have fun.

oh my it was a hot one today and I was outside in it most of the day sanding that dang grill and all the light buckets.

had to fill 4 random previous owner holes in the grill with the welder and then had to tack one of the light rings together.

In epoxy

Dents in the can and all.

I even welded up the rim I got from RonD. Some one had taken a cut off wheel to one of the lug holes and cut it. I just tacked it, used a countersink bit and a file to take the edge off where I welded. Fit on the spare rack just fine.
