I have a 1943 MB Chassis but my body is a CJ2a (tailgate, two square windshields) of early 50's vintage. I have a extra battery box on the right (passenger) side of the cowl with a cover and the hood has an access hole for a "set of jumper cables"? I have been told this is an airforce version for jumping off aircraft? I do not have a clue - I want to restore to the body and not the chassis - what do I have? What color was it originally, etc. Thanks, Jack

Hello Member,

Your question sounds very familiar to one I just answered on another web site. You'll have to post some photos of what you have. The M38 tub did have a tailgate. It did have a single battery bpx in the cowl on the passenger side.

As an aside, one of my M35s came from Thailand via Reforger where it had been used by a helicopter training outfit. The 24v plug specically said, 'NOT FOR BOOST STARTING AIRCRAFT' I assumed this was because the truck 24v might upset the avionics but I've since been told it was in case of sparks.
Hey Ho,
Dave.

Yes, Bill that was a typo. I correctred it. The tub is in all likelihood a late 60's or 70's universal replacement tub that had the tool indents on the pax side, the single cowl battery box and the Removable instrument cluster.

This is Jack. I am new at this. My research and talking to my 83 year old father-in-law - we found out we have a 1943 MB chassis - all original. In 1972 he bought a 52 M38 body from a willys dealer in Texas and replaced his his rusted out MB body. However dad kept his MB windshield. I am currently trying to trade for the correct windshield or sell my MB windshield to restore as an M38 and not an MB> Thanks to those who answered. M38 definitly had tailgates. My bad.
