No, the M38A1 uses a YS950S, the M38 uses a YS637S. _________________ Troy Davis

No. The M38 uses the YS637S which has a smaller SAE mounting flange and the three bosies are indexed differently the M38A1's. The M38A1 uses a YS950S which has the larger SAE Flange. All essential functions for each circuit are the same. So the rebuilding guide which is the Army TM 9-1826A and only covers the YS637S can be used as a guide for the YS950S but the specifications for the YS950S must be used. We have all that data loaded right here in the downloads section. Just click on "Downloads", then click on "drivetrain" under M38 then click on "Engine" then click on "YS Carb Manual".

Easy way to tell them apart from 20 ft. away - the mounting flange bolts on the M38 carb run perpendicular to the air intake neck, the ones for the M38A1 run in the same direction as the neck.
