Hello all,
I'm working on my MB front brakes at the moment. I stress MB not my M38
1. Does anybody have a modern part number for the wheel cylinders as a 50 year old Willys number doesn't work this side of the pond with my UK brake parts shop.
2. Am I doing something wrong? in order to remove the nut on the back of the pin that holds the shoes on I had to remove the bottom swivel and the four suds to get a spanner / socket onto the 3/4 inch nut. This is not what my manual tells me to do, I can't imagine it should be this difficult. Am I doing something wrong? I can certainly see why all the rebuilt M38s I find have been fitted with M38A1 brakes!!

Ah...........................? I see , I shall dig out a spare 3/4 ring and modify to your pattern Bob, greatly appreciated.
As for them being the same, I'm no expert, Willys number A-1502 I think 1 inch bore. So probably yes, the thing is, this side of the pond we don't have Pepboys/NAPA etc so Willys A-1502 means nothing to them. My 'local' shop is about 30 miles north, 60 mile round trip. I could take the pattern but it would be easier to ring them with an equivalent modern part number, and when(if) they have it I'll collect it. And its another good part number to add to my book.
I don't compare any parts to my m38 as when Japan ord Command rebuilt it they added some mods of their own like fitting M38A1 brakes.
I could simply order them up from my 'friendly' jeep parts dealer but I'm so p****** O** at being lied to and sent the wrong parts/secondhand parts/poor quality parts/ that I avoid English dealers like plague. I could tell you tales of, rusty wheel bearings, seized clutch bearing, wrong carb rebuild kit which I didn't find out till I'd half rebuilt the carb and could'nt figure out what was wrong, M201 gauges instead of M series gauges, wrong window rubbers, wrong handbrake cables, unfinshed hubs, repro parts that were sworn to be original NOS, m201 leads when I ordered m38 leads then bizzarly mix of m38/m201 leads when I re-orded the leads!
And that's only in the last year!!

The cylinder are the same except for the fact that the WWII jeep used a slotted piston. It served no purpose, so you can indeed replace them with the same cylinders as the 38, A1 and 151 series jeeps. I have them in stock, USA made for $27 per cylinder.

I used wagner parts, i do not know the number yet, can look for it.
I found them at a local brakeshop, specialized in american cars.
They compared them with the ones in a Wagner catalog.
They also delevered the lining material, so i could bend them and they made the conenctions on it.
