been thinking about this lately, has anyone notice when they got there jeep and prepping it for a paint job. how tough the paint was to sand or grind off?. thats the way my jeep was, i sand blasted the entire jeep and prep and repainted. but it seems evertime i turn around the paint either scratches or chips off.
is it because back in the good ole days there wasnt as much regulations on the paint. it just sucks spending $100.00 with hazmat fees to get it to your door and the paint chips off.even after it has cured for a couple of months.
anyone else has the same thought?. _________________ 1953 m38a1 1953 m100

I agree, the old paint is tuff. I've heard it was a lead paint.
What paint did you use for new? I used Gillispie GCI. I find the same with it, don't even touch it or it will leave a mark.
Oh well I'm over that, even though it does stink. My newest disturbance is oil leaks. _________________ Brett

There was also lead in the paint back in the good old days,and lead kills brain cells,and we certainly don't need that nowadays ! _________________ 51 M38 ,52 M38 ,53 Jeep PU ,62 M 37 ,68 M 715

Primer adheres to metal, paint adheres to primer. The suface prep, timing of application of more coats makes a big difference in how well it sticks. Too thick of a coat will chip easier. If you let the primer dry and then a long time after, apply the color, you probably need to sand the surface of the primer so the top coat can grab on. Best part is it's easy to touch up with OD enamel paint. John
