The tag behind the passenger seat serial number and the tag on the dash serial number were the same when your jeep left the Willys factory. If they are not matching now then either the dash plates are not from your jeep or the tub is from another jeep. When people switch tubs they often overlook the patent plate behind the passenger seat since it is usually covered with several coats of paint. Like most folks with these jeeps today you have a bit of a mongrel mix.

MD57870 is a 9-53 unit.

MD65463 is a 11-53 unit

The hood number is a contrived number put together by a civvy owner since it includes the complete dash serial number. USMC hood numbers had no relationship to the dash serial number.

The only way for you to find any history on your jeep is to search for the first civvy owner to find out if they have a copy of the original SF form 97 that it left the service with. Or you can sand away the paint a thin layer at a time looking for old unit markings. The military did not retain records on wheeled vehicles after they were surplussed out.

WWII jeeps had frame numbers from the factory. M38, M38A1, M170m, CJV35 did not. I believe I sent you a survey when you joined up. Fill it out and shoot it back to me and maybe we can verify month/year of manufacture based on those answers. Then you would know which number of the two really belongs to your jeep.

Wes, article 22 on the data request form requires me to provide you with a Part Number and Serial Number from the generator. The "Serial Number" is clearly marked but the "Part Number" is not. Other then the "Serial No", there is "Spec No.", "MFGR's No.", and the "ORDN No." listed on the generator.

I am not sure if any of those are what your requesting or of its elsewhere on the generator. I would also like to ask if you could explain what ORDN stands for?

Ordnance (ORD) is the logistics arm of the US Army.

ORD N = Ordnance part number.

Both manufacturer's number and ordnance numbers are not always on the tags. Either will fill the blank on the survey but when you find both on the tag then try to list both.
