I found rust on some gear teeth mating surfaces on my T-90. Do these need to be replaced and why?

Since they are pitted with corrosion which has penetrated their hardened surface there is always the risk of crack development at the weakened areas that can quickly lead to fractures. Still, it is your call.

The synchros are somewhat out of focus but look pretty worn too, so you want to replace them anyway. Since it will be apart…
