Hi Richard,
We can't see what you have so it helps a lot if you tell us what jeep you have (M38 or M38A1) and if it's stock 24 volt system or 12 volt.

It also helps giving advice if you tell us --- did what you have ever work correctly and then it quit?
Or it never worked correctly?

If you search the forum you'll find several threads like these that might be helpful:

Good luck!

Also the Army published a troubleshooting guide with all that info for all military vehicle 24V gauges. TB 9-2300-228-20 Tactical Transport and Combat Vehicles: Troubleshooting for Instrument Cluster Gages, Switches, Circuit Breakers, Sending Units and Related
Wiring dated 8 July 1960.

We have a downloads page where this data is stored.

The Military also used two Parts and systems standard specification systems since 1940

NAS preceding any parts number indicates that parts was designed and built to the Navy/Army Standard Specification and a short while later about 1952 created the MS meaning the part or system was built to Military Specification.

The MS # for the fuel quantity float is: MS 500040
