I picked up a 53 M38A1 and it appears that the motor might be not original. I cant get clear info on the block and some bits don't line up.

I can't perfectly identify the cab and the fuel pump is not orig to the M. Any thoughts? Can I identify the motor another way? The fuel pump is garbage and I'm cleaning the carb now and need a kit.

what is the casting number on the block located below the distributor?
what is the serial number stamped on the flat over the water pump.
with these two numbers someone on the list should be able to narrow down what you have.

I can't get the serial number. I cleaned the paint off and I can only see a couple of characters faintly.

Here's a pick of the casting number. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

It's a 1953 or newer F134 used in M38A1, M170, Pickups, Wagons.

The serial may be very difficult to read. It will take a very strong light aimed at it from the side while you view it with a magnifying glass. The water outlet is a real pain but with practice you can read them quite well. Clean thoroughly with brake cleaner and a scotchbrite pad.
