Is that a grommet in the firewall that the cable runs through? I had someone tell me there is no grommet there but that doesn't seem right. I think in time the metal housing on the cable would rub through on the edge of the firewall.
This is a great post I hope to have my p.brake functional in the next few days. I wish the underneath of my M38 was as clean as those pictures. I scraped another 10# of goop and one walnut sized rock from under her this weekend.
The only purpose for a grommet there would be to seal the hole. The cable is firmly clamped just inside the firewall. It is not free to move at the hole enough to damage it's armored sleeve. _________________ Wes K

While we are on this subject, why did Willys use a driveline parking brake as opposed to what most other vehicles had which was a cable that hooked to the regular rear wheel brakes. Wouldn't it have been simpler? _________________ Huntin'-Trappin-Fishin'-Jeep fixin' that's all I do.
Ball sports are boring.
Stock car racing is ok.
I believe the driveline parking brake was a military contract requirement. Probably because it divorced the parking brake system entirely from the service brake system making it a true backup system. _________________ Wes K
